The OWTC is an actor-focused theatre company where the artistic concentration is on the playwrights, the plays, and the characters. As the stories come to life, the audience and artists join together in an exploration and celebration of community, history, and life.
The Old World Theatre Company is completely comprised of alumni from the University of Illinois at Chicago. We are the in-house acting troupe of Congregation Kol Emeth.
It all began at Congregation Kol Emeth in 2009. Bill Raffeld, congregation member and legendary director/professor at the University of Illinois Chicago, was asked to organize a reading celebrating the 150th birthday of famed Jewish author Sholem Aleichem. Naturally he sought out the help of the most talented people he knew - his former students!
An Evening with Sholem Aleichem was so well received that the artists involved began to think, "What if we could continue doing this?" Two more productions followed and led to the official creation of the Congregation Kol Emeth's in-house acting troupe: The Old World Theatre Company!
The OWTC is proud to bring to you it's 9th season of productions!
